River of Light Lantern Parade Photos 2013

What a night we had on December 7th. Thanks to everyone for coming out to celebrate with us. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Thanks for joining in the fun and helping to bring art out into the community. I would especially like to thank those parents who helped in the art room during the month of November to assist in getting the lanterns made. I couldn't have done it without you!

Gordon Miller, amazing community photographer, has taken these photos. You can find more on his website at this link.

Clay Center

Something new this year is a clay center in the rotation of open centers. Third and fourth graders have had this option for the first trimester. Keeping track of clay for all classes at once becomes a kiln loading and clay storage challenge. By keeping it to grade level groups, it makes it more manageable and students have more access to clay than usual.

Here are some of the clay creations from 3rd and 4th graders this year.

Overheard in the Painting Center

Much experimentation happens when centers open. Here are some things first and second grade students were talking about in the painting center this week:
"We're trying to see who makes the better colors and we think it's a tie."
"These are my favorite. I mixed orange and yellow and I used Tucker's blue and my blue because they looked different."
"I used green and I used orange and I used blue – I think."
"I'm going to be an artist when I grow up."
